Kate Hudson and brother Oliver on the Cover of Health Magazine December 2020

Actress Kate Hudson, mom to sons Ryder Robinson, Bingham Bellamy, and daughter Rani Fujikawa – recently opened up to Health for the magazine’s December issue in a joint Zoom interview her brother Oliver, where she discusses how she lays down the law at home. “I am super tolerant when it comes to matters of the heart. I am quite tolerant as long as they are doing their part,” says Kate. “As far as I am concerned, there is what you are entitled to, and then there are your privileges. The things you are entitled to are a roof over your heads, food, and my unlimited love.” “Everything else is a privilege,” she adds, “and I will take it away in a heartbeat if you do not appreciate our home’s moral compass.”

Oliver, 44, says, “there are similarities” in the way he and Kate parent. Oliver Hudson is dad to daughter Rio Laura and sons Bodhi Hawn and Wilder Brooks. “I think we coddle our kids too much,” the actor shares. “Katie and I can be strict – but in a good way.” We are different in many things. I am very open-minded in letting my kids watch whatever movies, and I curse in front of them, but I curse in front of Kate’s kids too! “When you get older, you always criticize your parents, right? However, when I look at it objectively, I am like, whatever I do not agree with right now, they did something right because there is no one I would rather spend time with than them.” “Yeah, there was never a sit-down where they were like, this is the way you need to look at life,” Oliver agrees. “It is like Kate said, they were like, you are an individual; go down your path. We are here if you need us. And you take things from your parents unconsciously that reveal themselves as you get older. Every day there is something I do that I think, that is just like Mom (Goldie Hawn), or, that is like Dad (Kurt Russell). She and Oliver each have three kids, and Kate says the cousins “are like siblings” who “want to be with each other at all times.” “I send my kids to Oliver. Later we come over, and we meet up, and we have dinner,” she tells Health. “And we live so close to each other; it makes things pretty easy,” Oliver adds.
