Christina Milian and Jennifer Lopez Shut Down Rumors of Over 20-Year Feud

Despite ongoing whispers of bad blood, pop divas Christina Milian and Jennifer Lopez have finally set the record straight about their supposed fallout over the 2001 hit song “Play.”

In an exclusive interview, Milian dismissed accusations that she harbors resentment toward Lopez for recording the track, which Milian wrote at just 19 years old.

“Hands down, she killed it. She’s so good. I love that song,” gushed Milian, now 41. “I couldn’t believe at 19 I wrote a song for J.Lo.”

Milian explained that she penned “Play” in 15 minutes during a songwriting camp in Sweden, just one week after creating her smash “AM to PM.” While she loved “Play,” her label favored “AM to PM” for her debut album.

Meanwhile, music exec Tommy Mottola snatched up “Play” for Lopez’s sophomore record J.Lo.

“The guy heard ‘Play,’ loved it, and wanted it as her single,” recalled Milian. “The next thing I know, she’s in New York recording the song and I came in to help rewrite some of the stuff.”

Rumblings of bad blood emerged when Lopez kept Milian’s background vocals in the track, making some fans assume Milian felt bitter about not being credited as a feature.

But Milian firmly denied any hard feelings. “It’s funny when people talk about this being a thing about me singing on the song with Jennifer,” she said. “I have background singers on some of my songs. It’s no different than Michael Jackson having backups.”

While she didn’t get lead vocals, Milian still earned writing credit for “Play.” And she harbors no resentment over Lopez claiming the tune.

“I’m just so happy she did it because she’s an icon, she’s amazing,” gushed Milian, who insists “Play” remains one of her favorite karaoke picks.

After decades of whispers, it seems the pop princesses have finally put rumors of a feud to bed for good. When it comes to “Play,” Milian and Lopez want fans to know there’s no bad blood, only sisterhood.
